eCDOP was developed by KSCB in 2015 and implemented by Oxfordshire in April 2017.
This paper details how eCDOP a secure, flexible, cloud-based solution within which multi-agency partners communicate and share information, has transformed multi-agency practitioner engagement and improved child death review processes . Both authors have developed and implemented eCDOP.
eCDOP is a user-friendly system, accessible 24/7, that enables practitioners – particularly those who work shifts – to promptly submit child death information. It is externally hosted to ensure compliance with new and emerging requirements, including GDPR. eCDOP enables the effective management of both local and ‘out of area’ deaths. Practitioners have individual log-ins and no longer have to export patient-identifiable data outside their own IT systems.
Organisations actively monitor form completion by practitioners, resulting in better quality data and a significant reduction in the administrative burden on teams. Using the system, all aspects of case management, including case discussion meetings, are planned and facilitated. The time taken from notification of a child death to review at Panel is routinely recorded and a national eCDOP User Group has been developed.
eCDOP is now used by over 11 CDOPs, realising significant efficiencies and reducing information sharing issues and data transfer risks.
